James Tansey is an associate professor at the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business and is the Executive Director of the Sauder Centre for Social Innovation and Impact Investing (SauderS3i), a Research Centre at the Sauder School of Business dedicated to social innovation and sustainability. His research covers social innovation, impact investing, climate change and the social impact of new technologies. He is a member of Partners for Social Impact and was a member of the Premier’s Committee on Social Enterprise. He is Executive Director of the UBC University Sustainability Initiative, leading UBC’s transformation into a living laboratory for clean tech innovation. He is founder of a carbon and agroforestry investment company, NatureBank Asset Management and works with green tech startups. In 2010, he was recognized by “Business in Vancouver”as one of the city’s Top 40 Under 40 and was a Pacific finalist in Clean Tech at the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year® Awards. In 2014 he received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Province of British Columbia for his contributions to environmental protection.
