Traditional means of CO2 capture in industry involve wet scrubbing with solvents, typically amines. However this has high regeneration penalties and is unlikely to be cost-effective on a large scale, such as for electrical power generation. As a result of the energy intensive amine systems, there has been considerable recent interest in dry processes for capture of CO2 coupled with various schemes for storage or utilization of the CO2 so that it does not enter the atmosphere.
